Trace

Shows which cell each rendered equation came from. An equation is nudged clear of its neighbours as it is placed, so on a sheet carrying a few dozen of them the picture for a formula can end up some way from the formula — and which belongs to which becomes a matter of guessing.

A traced table: two runs of cells each marked down their edge in a colour, and the indexed equation each produced bordered in the same colour
Two runs traced at once. Each is marked down its edge, and the equation it produced is bordered to match — which is how you tell which equation covers which rows. The two cells that are not part of a run carry no mark.
